From Forest to Workshop: Creations from Maine’s Timber, you’ll join us for an immersive workshop where you’ll learn the journey of timber from Maine’s forests to the workshop. Discover a wide range of specialty products and local potential in wood creations. We will be joined by Ben Block of Block Brothers Custom Cabinets, and Sue and Charlie Hinkel of Wooden Way Creations.  

Then, in The Roots of Maine’s Timber Legacy from 3-5 pm, you’ll dive into the rich history of Maine’s forest products sector, tracing its origins from Native American practices to the modern timber industry. Explore the pivotal moments and key figures that shaped this enduring legacy. Featuring Donald Soctomah, who is a Native American author, filmmaker, historian, and politician. He serves as the tribal historic preservation officer for the Passamaquoddy tribe, where he works with both the U.S. and Canadian governments on the protection of culturally significant sites, artifacts, and knowledge. Soctomah has written several books about Passamaquoddy history, as well as a children’s book, Remember Me: Tomah Joseph’s Gift to Franklin Delano Roosevelt and The Canoe Maker. source
