Sunrise County Economic Council (SCEC) in collaboration with Washington Hancock Community Agency (WHCA) is currently seeking applicants for the 2014-2015 Incubator Without Walls (IWW), Business Energizer Program. The IWW program is administered by Down East Business Alliance (DBA) a division of WHCA. The program consists of a 15 week, comprehensive Business Management Training. Classes are held in Calais and Machias, Maine beginning in September and are held evenings on a bi-weekly schedule. This year’s (2014) IWW graduates join the over 500 participants that have successfully completed the course since its inception 18 years ago helping to create 375 new micro and small business in Washington and Hancock counties.

“DBA’s award-winning IWW program is nationally recognized and unique in its design of the business incubator concept,” IWW coordinator Roland Bechard said. “Participants range from those who simply have a good business idea, to those who have started a business and recognize a need to advance their business management skills.”

Bechard went on to say that IWW is a great way for local businesses to gain skills and develop networks across the county.

“IWW is all encompassing. We bring in folks who are well versed in legal structure, marketing, bookkeeping, accounting, capital formation, and many other ingredients needed for a successful business. And one of the biggest advantages of the IWW, is that participants can learn from one another – they can network, share ideas, and really adapt what works to fit their needs. Anyone thinking of starting a small business, operating a micro-business, or already in business should seriously consider applying”.

Space is limited. There is a pre and post application interview process. Interested entrepreneurs are encouraged to apply early.
