Facilities Manager
Job Description: Facilities Manager
Employment Category: Full time, Non-Exempt
Compensation: ($24 – $28) per hour; competitive benefits including cost share of health insurance premiums for employee and family plans
Location: Machias (travel to Machias and Calais SCEC locations and in person meetings also required)
Start date: ASAP
SCEC’s mission is to create jobs and prosperity in Washington County, Maine. The Office & Facilities Manager furthers this mission by supporting SCEC’s operations and facilities. The position provides administrative support for SCEC staff and scheduling and meeting support for SCEC and its partnerships. The position also provides backup for key functions in our Machias office.
The job duties include:
Support for SCEC Operations – Contractor & Building maintenance (25%*):
Office management duties within this position, include coordinating the upkeep and maintenance of SCEC’s physical locations (which currently includes SCEC owned buildings at 7 Ames Way and 19 Main St in Machias and at 330 North Street in Calais). This includes coordinating with any contractors needed for routine building maintenance, ordering office and building supplies, and communicating with SCEC staff, partners, and tenants about the use and upkeep of the facilities.
Office Support (25%*):
Facilities manager duties within this position, coordination with the Finance & Admin Team, include providing some reception at 7 Ames Way, support of hybrid staff equipment needs, receiving and notifying staff of their package deliveries, preparing bulk mailings, and opening and processing SCEC mail with scanning to staff or the Finance & Admin Team as required.
Janitorial & Building (30%*):
Ensuring physical cleanliness of facilities with minimal support from other SCEC staff. Rotating of seasonal decor, watering of plants and general hospitality to present a welcoming location to our community. Cleaning conference rooms and high traffic areas after meetings to include vacuuming, sweeping, and wiping of surfaces. Carrying vacuum up and downstairs to vacuum weekly. Taking out garbage to the dumpsters as needed, breaking down of cardboard. Restocking toilet paper and paper towels at three locations. Cleaning out refrigerators periodically in kitchens. Light Maintenance tasks – Example: Hanging pictures, small repairs in buildings.
Landscaping (10%*):
Seasonal maintenance at three SCEC locations to include maintaining flowerbeds, planting of annuals, weeding, and coordination with the mowing contractors. Physical requirement – lifting of bags of soil. Watering of trees during drought conditions at 7 Ames Way, and reminders to onsite staff to water window boxes.
Other duties as assigned (10%*):
The Office & Facilities Manager works with other SCEC staff to support the efficient function of SCEC’s facilities, programs, and projects.
The Office & Facilities Manager reports to SCEC’s Director of Finance and Administration.
Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include at least five (5) years relevant professional experience. Exceptions to the experience requirement will be considered when the applicant can demonstrate relevant skills, perspective, and judgment developed in meeting personal challenges and responsibilities. Discretion regarding confidential information is essential to this position. The demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities and to handle stressful situations with calm professionalism is highly valued.
The ability to perform the physical demands of the position to include manual labor and lifting of up to 75 pounds. Knowledge of and commitment to Washington County and its economic development are strongly preferred.
