Sunrise County Economic Council (SCEC) does not discriminate on any basis prohibited by federal and/or Maine law.

Your Rights Under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

Sunrise County Economic Council does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, disability, age, or sex in administration of its programs or activities, and the Sunrise County Economic Council does not intimidate or retaliate against any individual or group because they have exercised their rights to participate in actions protected, or oppose action prohibited, by 40 C.F.R. Parts 5 and 7, or for the purpose of interfering with such rights.

SCEC hereby gives the public notice of its policy to uphold and assure full compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended; Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; the Age Discrimination Act of 1975; Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972; and Section 13 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments of 1972 (hereinafter referred to collectively as the “federal non-discrimination laws”). The federal nondiscrimination laws prohibiting discrimination in federally assisted programs require that no person in the United States of America shall, on the grounds of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability be excluded from participation in, be denied benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal assistance.

Your Rights Under the Maine Human Rights Act

Under the Maine Human Rights Act, this organization may not discriminate against an individual by reason of the individual’s race or color, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity, age, physical or mental disability, religion, ancestry or national origin. The Maine Human Rights Act has additional protections related to employment, housing, and credit.

Any person who believes they have been aggrieved by an unlawful discriminatory practice regarding SCEC and its programs, has the right to file a formal complaint with SCEC. Any such complaint must be in writing and submitted to SCEC’s Civil Rights Officer within one hundred eighty (180) days following the date of the alleged occurrence.
