On October 13th, 2022. Downeast Acadia Regional Tourism held its 7th Annual Tourism Symposium themed “On the Creative Edge” – Arts, Culture, and Collaboration in Eastport and Way DownEast.

Members of the community gathered at the Eastport Arts Center in Eastport, Maine for a host of presentations, and conversations celebrating the arts and recognizing the contributions of leaders in community collaboration across the DownEast Acadia tourism region.

This year’s guests included authors Deborah and James Fallows who shared a bit about their experiences of Eastport, and discussed their book “Our Towns.”

Among other speakers was Jon Southern, Director of Roosevelt Campobello International Park who highlighted the importance of cooperation between local communities on both sides of the Canadian border, as well Hugh French, the Director of The Tides Institute who spoke vividly of the meaning behind preserving, and restoring our cultural heritage Way DownEast.

Kara Mitchell of the St. Croix Valley Chamber of Commerce, and Christine Rose of The Maine Office of Tourism also discussed updates for Way DownEast Community Destination Academy and community art project currently underway for the Way DownEast region.

The DART Tourism Symposium gathers annually to provide opportunities for people in the travel and tourism industry to network with other professionals and communities. We strive to share news and ideas, and celebrate the region’s tourism movers and shakers.
