The Washington County Leadership Institute was formed in 1997 as a partnership between the University of Maine at Machias and the Sunrise County Economic Council to help Washington County residents develop the skills to become effective and involved participants in their community.
WCLI runs from February to April of every year and brings together a diverse range of people from small-business, finance, education, service-related industries, healthcare, the nonprofit world, local or municipal government, volunteers and others. Since its inception, WCLI has graduated 286 participants.
Since 2002, WCLI has been administered exclusively by the Sunrise County Economic Council with financial assistance from annual program sponsors. For more information about the course and how you can participate or become a sponsor, please contact Jennifer Peters (WCLI Coordinator) at 207-255-0983 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Scholarships are available to assist with tuition and the 2017 Application can be downloaded here.
SCEC received the Maine Community Foundation’s 2009 Noyce Award for Nonprofit Excellence for its commitment to providing grassroots leadership training and development through the Washington County Leadership Institute.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Washington County Leadership Institute has been postponed until March 1 and the application deadline has been extended to February 24. Is this your year to participate?
